Georgia Settles Inmate Death Lawsuit for $350,000

Posted by: DC/Thursday, November 5, 2015/Categories: In The News

The state of Georgia has decided to pay $350,000 to settle a lawsuit by the family of a Hays State Prison inmate who was beaten and strangled to death in his cell. The inmate died December 26, 2013 and his family's lawsuit alleged that the state was responsible for his death due to an increasing number of faulty locks, which allowed the inmates to go into other cells. The prison saw three deaths in five months and the lawsuit alleges that the faulty locks were to blame. The state has not admitted liability but has agreed to settle the lawsuit with the inmate's family.
